Full Job Description
GENERAL POSITION DESCRIPTION AND PURPOSE: Individuals will perform basic machinist operations on but not limited to manual mills, lathes, NC equipment, saws and drill press. Will support the Corporate Quality Policy and using TQM concepts, principles and tools, will make continuous improvements in the work process.
POSITION FUNCTIONS: Listedbelow are typical functions performed in this position. This description should not be construed to contain every function / responsibility that may be required to be performed by the individual in this position.
PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:
1. Perform basic setups and operations to produce a part from an engineering print or sketch. Working from raw stock with minimal assistance holding ± .002 tolerances consistently. Able to use equipment listed above and various other shop equipment to produce a quality part. Able to setup, run and program CNC equipment utilizing macro programming.
2. Able to make simple ultrasonic horn details.
3. Read and understand blueprints completely.
4. Perform layout work.
5. Perform basic math skills including conversion of fractions to decimals and basic trigonometry.
6. Utilize measuring instruments such as: micrometers, depth micrometers, Vernier calipers and other various measuring instruments needed for the job.
7. Setup NC/CNC equipment, run and optimize NC/CNC machine time.
8. Clean and deburr parts so they are ready for completion
9. Sharpening of cutting tools such as: drills, facing, turning tools and fly cutting tools.
10. Perform basic maintenance of machines, including minor repairs or adjustments, maintaining oils and coolant levels and their correct concentrations (checked with a refractometer)
11. Checking and cleaning of filters or coolant tanks as it becomes necessary
12. Cleaning off machines and immediate area to maintain a clean and safe working area
13. Keep chips of specific materials separated for recycling purposes
14. Communicate with next shift employees concerning current or scheduled jobs at the machine, or leave detailed note should next scheduled shift personal not be available
15. Complete daily time cards and job cards accurately.
16. Move materials to, from and within the machine shop.
17. Consult with department manager before making decision(s) that change procedures.
18. Perform work in other job classifications as needed.
19. Assist in training of personnel in equipment operation when necessary.

MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: High School education or equivalent.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Two years minimum experience in a machine shop environment with emphasis on set ups and operations of mills, lathes, saws and drill presses. Blueprint reading, math skills, and the use of measuring instruments and machinist tools a must. Working from raw stock with minimal assistance holding ± .005 tolerances consistently.
