  - The plastic welding process creates a molecular bond between two compatible thermoplastics. Three main steps to any weld: pressing, heating, and cooling.Ultrasonic thermoplastic welding process is the joining or reforming of materials through the use of heat generated from high-frequency mechanical motion.Compared to ultrasonic welding, vibration welders operate at much lower frequencies, higher amplitudes and much greater clamping force.Laser welding is a non-contact joining method that uses a laser beam to melt the plastic in the joint area by delivering a controlled amount of energy to a precise location. Precision in controlling the heat input is based on the ease of adjusting the laser beam size and the range of methods available for positioning the beam. Most thermoplastics can be welded using a proper laser source and appropriate joint design.This process works through rotational motion of one part relative to the other. This results in surface friction that leads to heat generation and the formation of a melt layer at the joint. Spin welding typically has weld times from one-half to five seconds. Dukane’s spin welders can handle parts from approximately one-half inch (12 mm) diameter using high speed motors up to nine inches (225 mm) diameter using high torque motors.Another non-contact welding method is infrared welding that uses radiation to transfer heat to the plastic parts. It follows the same fundamental steps as hot plate welding. Two different approaches to infrared welding have emerged. One of the systems uses an electrically heated metal plate which, in some cases, is coated with a ceramic. In the other system, the standard heater plate is replaced with infrared emitters clamped and spring-loaded on either side of a movable platen.Hot plate welding process uses conduction, convection and/or radiation from an actual heated platen to melt the fraying surfaces of the plastic parts.Ultrasonic food processing involves a vibrating knife producing a nearly frictionless surface which does not deform food products and to which they do not stick. The surface cleanly cuts or slits products including fillers such as nuts, raisins, dried fruit or chocolate morsels without displacement or plowing.Typical fabric & film installations are multiheaded systems that take advantage of Dukane's narrow profile thrusters’ close center-to-center positioning.Talk with an expert, contact us today. Refurbished Ultrasonic Welders

We have an inventory of used ultrasonic welders for sale. These factory certified used and refurbished ultrasonic welders come with a limited warranty backed by our worldwide network of service and support. Used ultrasonic welders available typically were used in our applications labs as our sales engineer’s demo equipment. Most machines have few actual production hours. Our Technical Experts offer onsite training at your plant floors to ensure that operators and production engineers are aware of the important the features of welding systems and gain full productivity. Application Support

We review your applications and run your samples using our leading-edge plastic welding technologies. Our Application Engineers inspect the samples after assembly and make sure they meet required specifications and suggest the best suited process for the application. You receive a formal lab report detailing setup conditions, process parameters, power and velocity graphs of the actual data obtained while assembling the samples.

Application Laboratories

Our application laboratories are equipped with industry leading welding technology as well as the latest test equipment. Application engineers conduct feasibility in these labs and prepare a formal lab report explaining setup conditions, detailed weld graphs, and weld data for customer evaluation. Pull test equipment, microtome testing, and 3D surface scanning are other technologies available to our customers for testing their welded samples.

Evaluation & Consultation

Our recognized technical experts with many years of plastic joining experience evaluate each application to determine the best plastic joining process based on your project’s requirements. Application engineers will provide a detailed report with part design change recommendations if needed along with a detailed joint design tailored to your assembly needs. Prototype tooling and short sample runs are also available upon request to limit your risk before entering into full scale production.

Designing and Prototyping

Our designers use leading edge technology to visualize and design industry leading tooling for all our plastic joining processes. Our engineers utilize computer modeling with 3D finite element analysis(FEA) to provide robust tooling designs prior to manufacturing. Once the tooling is manufactured in our captive manufacturing facilities it is sampled on one of many dedicated plastics joining systems in our laboratories.

In-House Manufacturing

We have one of the largest in-house manufacturing centers in North America in the plastic welding industry. With multiple machining centers at locations worldwide we can control tooling quality, deliveries, and provide a single run off and testing facility to our customers. Our manufacturing operations in China, Japan, Europe, India, Mexico, provides tooling and manufacturing services to our global customers, locally.

Testing/Part Runs

We offer complimentary test welding of up to two dozen samples on your newly manufactured equipment and tooling prior to shipping. Customers gather production ready plastic assemblies and ship to one of our manufacturing locations for the trials. We encourage our customers to be present during the weld trials especially those that have limited exposure to plastic joining equipment. Dukane has invested in test equipment for post welding inspection such as CMM equipment, white light part scanners, pull testers, and high powered microscopes with the ability to provide microtome sectioning.
