Turnkey Ultrasonic Workcell Handles Door-Size Parts

Automated work cells with the capacity to handle automotive door–size assemblies, and built with open guarding so the welding process remains visible, are just a few of the many features of the new work cells from Dukane. An ergonomical one–touch cycle initiator retracts the slide tray and pneumatic clamps accurately position the parts to be joined yielding higher quality welds. Retro-reflective part–in–place sensors ensure all door clips are in place and light curtains protect the operator during welding. A single smart ultrasonic generator with a Multi–Point Controller (MPC) provides independent control for all five probes and monitors the time, energy and amplitude of each weld. The generator also provides bad part notification to guarantee good parts.

The five Dukane thrusters are mounted on a solid structural bridge to ensure precise weld placement by eliminating walking and any side deflection of the horn at the weld boss. Remote activation, easy access and independent angular adjustment of each thruster guarantees axial alignment perpendicular to the weld plane. Each thruster incorporates a hydraulic speed control to match its down speed to the melt velocity of the plastic thereby yielding the highest possible weld strength. Manual control of each thruster makes setup quick and easy. The work cell can also be adapted for spin welding, thermal presses or a combination of spin, thermal and ultrasonic processes.
