Servo-Control X-Y Positioning System For Plastic Assembly

Dukane developed the Servo-control X-Y positioning system for a project requiring multiple posts welded on a large automotive instrument cluster. The machine includes a precision, servo-controlled x-y-positioning stag with motion control accuracy within .001 of an inch. The program allows for up to 8 positioning profiles with as many as 65 positions each. Programming is easy with the help of the built in teach mode. Users can easily adjust the profile and positions on their plant floor. Of course, the programs are password protected to insure process security. The positioning stag incorporates a unique, quick-change tool system complete with tooling ID and quick disconnects for pneumatic part clamping and part sensing.

The solid tubular welded base has a 1" thick Blanchard ground steel top, along with a ridged steel bridge This robust bridge is designed to hold several Ultrasonic, Spin or Thermal welding heads depending upon the application requirements. There is sufficient processor capacity to incorporate other secondary operations such as date coding, laser marking or vision system for inspection. The enclosure is lined with sound deadening material to promote operator safety, along with locking access panels on four sides for easy maintenance. One hand, opto-touch cycle start with light curtain and sliding polycarbonate front door promote operator efficiency. The clear front door provides visual access to the welding process. Manual/jog mode selection allows the user to easily step through the cycles for effortless set up and troubleshooting.

The pictured system includes the Ultrasonic welder DPC level IV 2200-watt thruster with time, distance and energy weld plus monitor modes. This system has a unique built in feature for "remote setup switching." The remote setup feature allows for individual ultrasonic process parameters for each weld profile, thus Z-axis. The Z-axis feature provides the ability to handle weld points at different heights, and contoured and stepped assemblies are no longer a problem.
